LOST WORDS FROM OUR CHILDHOOD (skip if you were born after 1960)

I remember my Dad saying "Keep a stiff upper lip and don't take any
wooden nickels" ..

Mergatroyd! Do you remember that word? Would you believe the
spell-checker did not recognize the word Mergatroyd? "Heavens to
Mergatroyd!"

The other day a not so elderly (I say 75) lady said something to her
son about driving a Jalopy; and he looked at her quizzically and said,
"What the heck is a Jalopy?" He had never heard of the word jalopy!
She knew she was old ... But not that old.

Well, I hope you are Hunky Dory after you read this and chuckle.

About a month ago, I illuminated some old expressions that have become
obsolete because of the inexorable march of technology. These phrases
included: Don't touch that dial, Carbon copy, You sound like a broken
record, and Hung out to dry.

Back in the olden days we had a lot of moxie. We'd put on our best bib
and tucker, tostraighten up and fly right.

Heavens to Betsy! Gee whillikers! Jumping Jehoshaphat! Holy Moley!

We were in like Flynn and living the life of Riley; and even a regular
guy couldn't accuse us of being a knucklehead, a nincompoop or a pill.
Not for all the tea in China!

Back in the olden days, life used to be swell, but when's the last
time anything was swell? Swell has gone the way of beehives, pageboys
and the D.A.; of spats, knickers, fedoras, poodle skirts, saddle
shoes, and pedal pushers.

Oh, my aching back! Kilroy was here, but he isn't anymore.

We wake up from what surely has been just a short nap, and before we
can say, "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!" Or, "This is a fine kettle
of fish!" We discover that the words we grew up with, the words that
seemed omnipresent, as oxygen, have vanished with scarcely a notice
from our tongues and our pens and our keyboards.

Poof, go the words of our youth, the words we've left behind. We
blink, and they're gone. Lickitysplit. Where have all those great
phrases gone?

Long gone: Pshaw, The milkman did it. Hey! It's your nickel. Don't
forget to pull the chain. Knee high to a grasshopper. Well,
Fiddlesticks! Going like sixty. I'll see you in the funny papers.
Don't take any wooden nickels. Wake up and smell the roses.

It turns out there are more of these lost words and expressions than
Carter has liver pills. This can be disturbing stuff! (Carter's Little
Liver Pills are gone too!)

We of a certain age have been blessed to live in changeable times. For
a child each new word is like a shiny toy, a toy that has no age. We
at the other end of the chronological arc have the advantage of
remembering there are words that once did not exist and there were
words that once strutted their hour upon the earthly stage and now are
heard no more, except in our collective memory. It's one of the
greatest advantages of aging!

Leaves us to wonder where Superman will find a phone booth...

See ya later, alligator! Okidoki. After while crocodile.

You'll notice they left out "Monkey Business"!!!

WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FABULOUS 30'S /40'S/50'S... NO ONE WILL
EVER HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY AGAIN ... WE WERE GIVEN ONE OF OUR MOST
PRECIOUS GIFTS: LIVING IN THE PEACEFUL AND COMFORTABLE TIMES, CREATED
FOR US BY THE "GREATEST GENERATION!"

....OK if crawling under school desks for nuclear attack drills, the
Cold War is peaceful and comfortable.....but the cars and the music
were KEEN!

Huge explosion in online romance scams in Hong Kong in 2018, with victims swindled out of US$57.6 million | South China Morning Post

"when the victims get suspicious, other fraudsters will show up claiming to be police officers and ask the victims to pay handling fees to get their money back."

A note from Rex: Scammers are the mold of the internet. They grow in the dark. Sunshine is the only cure. Trust your friends to shine their light on ALL requests for money.

How can there be any humor in a report like this? It is like making fun of the handicapped.

Facebook's Corrupt Bargain: Gave Democrat Schumer $50,0000 Then Gave His Daughter a Job

Warner Todd Huston November 19, 2018

https://godfatherpolitics.com/facebooks-corrupt-bargain-gave-democrat-schumer-500000-than-gave-his-daughter-a-job/

Is Facebook wholly sold out to the left? Well, after this story, you'll have to admit that Facebook is just another corrupt part of the Democrat Party now that we know that Facebook not only donated $50,000 to Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer's political campaign, but they also gave his daughter a job.

Seriously, this is the very definition of corruption, back-scratching, and favor-giving. What do you think Facebook expected for their $50K donation and giving a Democrat Senator's daughter a do-nothing job?

As the New York Post reported:

Facebook employees, including some at the top of its corporate pyramid, have helped fill Schumer's campaign coffers – and he's returned the favor by carrying water for the social media giant in Congress, according to a recent report.

And Alison Schumer, the senator's youngest of two daughters, works as a Facebook product marketing manager – which pays an average of $160,000, according to Glassdoor.com.

"It sure looks hinky," political strategist Susan Del Percio told The Post. "This is an industry that's been trying for years to fend off heavy government regulation by actively cultivating relationships with senators and House members."

So, what does $50K and a fake job to a family member get you?

Well, Schumer has suddenly become a great Facebook booster.

"Facebook is a very powerful force," Schumer said in March, the paper reported. "I think, overall, it's been a very positive force."

Sure, it has, buddy. Positive for your daughter and your own bank account.

The Post detailed some of those donations:

Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave the senator $5,200 in 2013.

Sheryl Sandberg, the company's high-profile chief operating officer, kicked in $5,400 – the maximum legal amount – to Schumer's 2016 re-election campaign.

Facebook general counsel Colin Stretch gave the same sum in 2015.

Newly appointed board member Kenneth Chenault has been a loyal Schumer supporter since 1995. Most recently, he gave $1,200 to the senator's 2016 primary election campaign and $2,700 in that year's general election. Chenault has contributed a total of $6,900.

Naturally, Schumer is reluctant to say anything about his daughter's cushy, do-nothing Facebook job.

Meanwhile, Facebook continues its daily attack on the First Amendment and the freedom of speech of any user the social media giant thinks might tend toward being a conservative.

If you are Republican, or lean right, Facebook bans you. If you are a Democrat, Facebook promotes your content and may even give your daughter a high-paying, fake job.

Pictures can lie when the photographer (or his bosses) wants them to lie

Learn how easy it is to manipulate people's perceptions of an event that's being covered for the sake of whatever agenda that the powers-that-be at a given news network might have.
An angle makes a world of difference. Fake photography goes with fake news!!!
