ANTIFA summer camp for 10-year-olds being held in Portland Libs of TikTok Jul 18 If the Drag Queen Story Hours and Critical Race Theory aren't enough for your little progressive tike, you can now send your child to ANTIFA summer camp!  Budding Roses, an anarchist organization in Portland, will hold a social justice camp for children in 4th to 8th grade. The organization brags about the children who attend their free camp later participating in protests and encourages them to be anti-fascist "social justice activists."  The curriculum provided by Budding Roses includes a plethora of ANTIFA-style protest documents including "Tear Gas for Portlanders" which teaches campers on what to do if they come in contact with tear gas and to donate to bail funds to help the cause. Children who attend the ANTIFA summer camp will be taught chants about "killer cops" and the "rapist government" as reported by Daily Citizen.  "The whole damn system  Is guilty as hell, Indict! Convict! Put those killer cops in Jail, The whole damn system Is guilty as hell!" "It's the state that's our oppressor, It's the rapist government. It's the state that's our oppressor, It's the rapist government. We know the rapist is you. We know the rapist is you." Don't worry— Budding Roses provides a "Black Lives Matter Coloring Book," which also includes a "Transgender Affirming" coloring sheet One piece of curriculum titled "Why Writing People in Prisons and Jails Matters" will equip your innocent child with a guide to writing to letters to felons in prison. This guide also calls for kids to "fight for prison abolition." According to PJ Media, "The City of Portland has given the group space to conduct its in-person camp at a local park, and in 2018 granted the summer camp the 'Spirit of Portland Award' for nonprofit initiative of the year." If you were concerned that Portland would run out of protestors to continue destroying the city in violent riots, have no fear—Budding Roses is making sure that children as young as 10 are prepared to hit the streets for the next woke cause.

District votes to keep pornographic book available for children Libs of TikTok Jul 12 Salem Keizer school district in Oregon has been in hot water after parents discovered that a pornographic book, Gender Queer, was available in the school library. The school formed a special committee, headed by a woman named Suzanne West, to determine if the book should be removed. West's job description reads: "Crafting and developing strategies that support the district's movement to become a more anti-racist and anti-oppressive school system." The committee voted last week to keep the book, which we'll get into. But first, take a look at some of the explicit content found in Gender Queer: It's no surprise that parents have been outraged at the committee's decision to keep this pornographic book available for their children. We obtained a copy of an email Suzanne West sent to one concerned parent. The email provided official statements from committee members regarding their decision and they are so unbelievably insane, you have to read them yourself: "The book will be necessary to keep in schools, to help be more inclusive and allow all students from the LGBTQ+ community to have a resource to refer to. In addition, the pages taken out of context do not represent the intention of the book and only served as an illustration to help provide understanding of what the author was trying to portray in their book." "The book expands on sexual orientation and gender identity which are both topics touched on in wellness." "It being a graphic novel makes the book more accessible to a variety of readers." The book "has won a large number of teen-specific literary awards and is an 'Own Voices' text for a marginalized community. Inclusion in the library of the three high schools meets the district's goal for more inclusive and diverse materials." "This graphic novel is very well done from a literary standpoint. It is an excellent example of a memoir, it includes many visual metaphors, it promotes literacy and accessibility through the graphic format, and it has modern language suitable to our students today." A "well written/illustrated text; important insight regarding gender identity." "We think kids need to read about vibrators, blowjobs, masturbation, and chest binders for ultimate inclusion and a show of diversity," is what the statement should've read. Instead, they mask the graphic nature of the book under the veil of "inclusivity" and accuse concerned parents of taking the book out of context. In what context is a photo of someone receiving oral sex okay to show children? The Gender Queer book hasn't just upset parents in Oregon, however. Alarmed parents across the nation have shown up to local school board meetings to try to have the book removed. One school board even cut a mother off while she read the book, ironically saying it was too "obscene" for a school board meeting: Libs of TikTok @libsoftiktok A parent read from the books 'Gender Queer' and 'Lawn Boy' at a board meeting and was shut down by a board member who says "that's obscene." These books are obscene for adults yet they continue to be available for children in @JCPSKY schools. How does this make sense? This graphic book containing pornography can't be read in front of adults yet is available for kids to read in schools across the country. May 10th 2022 6,762 Retweets20,371 Likes The individuals choosing to provide this book to children won't even allow it to be read at a public hearing. How is a book considered too graphic for the public but deemed "inclusive" for children? Why do they want what they're teaching our children to be kept a secret? Why are parents routinely shut down when they voice their concerns? We're not allowed to question what they're teaching our children. Instead, we must comply to avoid being labeled homophobic, transphobic, or hateful. So shut up and let your kid read about blow jobs and chest binders, bigot!

Rand Paul Demands Answers About Federal Employees Getting Payments From Drug Companies They're Supposed to Oversee

How many government employees tasked with overseeing drug companies are also receiving money from them? And are federal agencies properly disclosing these payments when they do occur?

Senator Rand Paul is demanding answers to these very fair questions.

What's This All About?

At issue here is the flow of money between the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the companies and groups it works with.

"Last year, the National Institutes of Health–Anthony Fauci's employer–doled out $30 billion in government grants to roughly 56,000 recipients," Adam Andrzejewski of OpenTheBooks explains. "That largess of taxpayer money buys a lot of favor and clout within the scientific, research, and healthcare industries. However… hundreds of millions of dollars in payments also flow the other way. These are royalty payments from third-party payers (think pharmaceutical companies) back to the NIH and individual NIH scientists."

According to OpenTheBooks, at least $350 million in royalties flowed back to the NIH and specific NIH scientists from 2010 to 2020. For example, Andrzejewski's investigation revealed that Sad Little Man, Dr. Fauci has received at least 23 royalty payments, while former NIH Director Francis Collins received at least 14.

But there's still a lot we don't know, like how much these payments were for and what companies or organizations paid them out. The NIH has fought like hell to resist fully disclosing most of this information, Andrzejewski says, and much of what they have released is heavily redacted.

That's where Senator Paul and his Republican colleagues come in.

Demanding Full Transparency

Senator Paul, Senator Rick Scott of Florida, Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, and Senator James Lankford of Pennsylvania all serve on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. They just sent a letter to Acting NIH Director Lawrence Tabak demanding more transparency and information on these royalty payments.

The letter was exclusively provided to BASEDPolitics ahead of its public release. 

"In 2005, the NIH implemented a policy requiring its employees to disclose royalty payments on the consent forms for clinical trial participants; however, the agency has taken no action to disclose such payments to the public at large," the senators wrote. 

"Nevertheless, we believe that the American taxpayer deserves to know the degree to which government doctors and researchers have a financial interest in drugs and products they support, and whether any relationship exists between federal grants awarded by NIH and royalty payments received by NIH personnel," they continue.

"Additionally, Americans deserve greater transparency in how the hundreds of millions in royalty payments NIH receives are distributed, and the degree to which NIH's leadership—already among the highest-paid individuals in the federal bureaucracy—has benefited from this "hidden" revenue stream," the letter concludes. 

The senators requested detailed information from NIH regarding royalty payments received by federal employees and departments from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2021. 

They also asked NIH to transparently explain whether its employees have followed federal laws that prohibit federal employees from participating in activities where they have a financial interest unless they received a written waiver or qualify for a regulatory exemption.

The GOP lawmakers have given NIH a deadline of June 17 to comply with their request, as the agency is bound under federal law to do, and provide the requested information. 

Why Does This Matter?

At first glance, this issue might seem niche and bureaucratic. But it actually gets to the heart of why Washington, DC is such a swamp, and why big government so often fails to serve the interests of the American people: financial entanglement between government actors and special interests.

Like many federal agencies, Andrzejewski explains, "NIH is a revolving door of tens of billions of dollars in government grant-making coupled with hundreds of millions of dollars in private—non-transparent—royalty payments. There needs to be a lot more sunshine on this potentially unholy alliance."

"When a federal bureaucrat pops up on television giving us health instructions, who has paid them and for what research and technology?" he asks. "When a patient agrees to a clinical trial or experimental treatment, what financial interests are involved?"

American taxpayers deserve answers to all of these questions. The government works for us, not the other way around, and it needs to be completely transparent and accountable to the public for how it uses our money and how its decisions are being made. 

Kudos to Senator Paul and his GOP colleagues for making this accountability a priority.
